On January 30, 2026, the MusiCares Person of the Year gala took place in Los Angeles. A music icon, Mariah Carey was recognized by MusiCares for her philanthropy and ongoing support for the music community. From supporting the Make-A-Wish Foundation to founding Camp Mariah, Carey is truly making a positive difference in the industry. Ahead of the 68th Grammy Awards, Mariah Carey’s achievements were celebrated at the 2026 MusiCares Gala. A Grammy-winning artist and producer, Carey’s musical legacy and empathy towards the community were praised by MusiCares. A true icon, Mariah Carey’s career spans over 30 years with 19 No.1 Billboard Hot 100 singles (the most for a solo artist). The executive director of MusiCares, Theresa Wolters, acknowledged Carey’s philanthropy as a true artist and trailblazing entrepreneur.
“Mariah Carey is an absolutely extraordinary singer, songwriter, producer, businesswoman, philanthropist. She has lifted so many women and creators up with her. This was a pretty easy choice to honor her,” says Theresa Wolters, Executive Director of MusiCares.
Adam Lambert, John Legend, and Laufey were among the list of artists who performed covers of Mariah Carey’s hits. Adam Lambert delivered a show-stopping performance of Mariah Carey’s “Can’t Let Go”. Lambert showed his artistry and range while honoring Carey’s legendary vocal prowess. John Legend sang his version of “Hero” while playing the piano. “Hero” is Mariah Carey’s eighth No.1 Billboard Hot 100 single. Laufey sang her bossa nova version of “It’s Like That”, and Mariah Carey was singing along during this performance. Another highlight was Teddy Swims’ soulful version of “Without You”, with effortless vocal runs that showcased his artistry. Collectively, these performances show an appreciation of Carey’s timeless music.
At the 2026 MusiCares gala, Mariah Carey wore a Prada dress, and Etho Maria and Leviev jewelry. Mariah Carey delivered an empowering speech while thanking Harvey Mason, Jr., Theresa Wolters, MusiCares, and The Recording Academy.
