Davis thanked Denzel Washington and her family before honoring her late father, Dan Davis. Viola Davis’s powerful speech received heartfelt applause.
Tracee Ellis Ross’s work in Black-ish received her first Globes nomination and award for the best actress in a comedy TV series category. Ross delivered an empowering speech that united the audience. She thanked ABC, the Hollywood Foreign Press, and her family. Ross acknowledged the “beauty and sameness of stories that are outside of where the industry usually looks”. Ross then received applause from the crowd.
