Today Sloane Stephens won her first major title at the 2017 U. S. Open. Here’s the scoop:
Florida native Sloane Stephens is a tennis player with the focus and drive to be the best at her game. Her rise to success illustrates the power of hard work and perseverance. After having foot surgery in January, she bounced back at the U. S. Open to make a major comeback. During the semifinals, she defeated Venus Williams in three sets. Then Stephens competed in her first Grand Slam tournament final.
Sloane Stephens played with her close friend, Madison Keys, in the 2017 U.S. Open women’s singles final. Both players shined throughout the game. With a score of 6-3 and 6-0, Stephens was declared the 2017 U. S. Open women’s singles champion. In August 2017, Stephens was ranked 957th in the world. Now she is ranked No. 17 in the world.
