Livia Faith sang “Dream a Little Dream of Me” on The Voice. Now, her cover has 1 million YouTube views. Here’s the scoop:
Livia Faith, 17, sang “Dream a Little Dream of Me” on The Voice. Kelly Clarkson, Alicia Keys, and Blake Shelton turned their chairs during her performance. Then Clarkson asked Faith who her influence is and how she got her signature retro style. Faith said her mother influenced her and she has a deep appreciation for oldies. Livia Faith’s mother was the first person to show her “Dream a Little Dream of Me”, one of her favorite songs.
“I would love to have you on my team, and I just think you’re different from everybody else. There’s not going to be anybody really competing against you. I think that’s going to set you apart, not only on my team, but maybe on the whole show. And it’d be cool to, like, see your voice on a contemporary song but do that little twist on it,” Clarkson said.
Livia Faith liked Clarkson’s idea of covering contemporary songs with a twist. Alicia Keys asked if Livia Faith plays any instruments. Faith said that she plays the ukelele.
“I think that [the ukelele] is a cool thing to integrate in your performances. I think that’d be so unique and beautiful. And I’m just like you… I love soul music, I love oldies, I love classics, and I love to take them and then twist them on their head,” Keys said.
After Alicia said this, Livia Faith smiled. “That’s what I like”, she said.
Keys continued, “So I think together, with our knowledge of music and exploration and your mom… We’ll come up with a few new songs and we’ll take over The Voice.”
Then Adam Levine pointed out that everybody forgot that Blake Shelton turned around. The coaches laughed before Shelton said Faith’s voice is unique and like nobody else.
Alicia Keys added that one song that came into her mind for Livia Faith was “Earth Angel” by The Penguins. Keys sang the lyrics together with Clarkson, who sang backup vocals. Livia Faith liked all of Alicia Keys’ ideas. In the end, she chose TEAM ALICIA.
On March 19, The Voice‘s first battle rounds will premiere live. Julia Michaels (Team Adam), Shawn Mendes (Team Alicia), Hailee Steinfeld (Team Kelly), and Trace Adkins (Team Blake) will mentor the singers as guest advisors during the battle rounds.
NBC’s The Voice airs at 8/7c on Mondays and Tuesdays. Stay tuned.
