Today, Alysa Liu—one of the youngest figure skating champions in history—is celebrating her 14th birthday. This exclusive feature article covers Liu’s most recent achievements as a figure skating champion. Liu made a special appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon. She also appeared on the orange carpet at the 2019 Kids Choice Sports Awards. Here’s the scoop:

This year, Alysa Liu appeared on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon. After Fallon asked Liu if she is a fan of The Tonight Show, Liu said she watches it in her free time on YouTube. Liu added that she loves the musical wheel of impressions segment. After Fallon announced that Liu became the youngest U.S. women’s figure skating champion in history, the audience gave her a round of applause. Liu is also the youngest skater to successfully perform two triple axels. Also, Fallon asked Liu how she stays focused when she is performing a routine. Fallon shared that he loves Liu’s positive ‘moving forward’ approach:

“I stay focused, I don’t think about anything else, I just focus on myself, and tell myself I still have more to go,” Alysa Liu responded.

Jimmy Fallon showed a picture where two figure skaters helped Alysa get to the first place podium. “That’s awesome that they did that,” Fallon said. Then, Liu showed Fallon the ritual she practices before she goes into the ice. Liu added that she has done this ritual since she was younger to make sure she performs well on the ice as a figure skater. After Fallon and Liu performed this ritual onstage, the audience gave them a round of applause.

Alysa Liu appeared on the orange carpet at the 2019 Kids Choice Sports Awards. Liu said she is grateful, excited, and happy to attend the show. Liu added that she looks forward to seeing everyone. She told us that her list of inspirations includes Michelle Kwan and Satoko Miyahara.
