The Hollywood Walk of Fame has over 2,000 stars celebrating a diverse list of recording artists, producers, and film stars including Adam Levine, Greg Berlanti, Carmen Zapata, and Queen Latifah. Now, Salt-N-Pepa has their very own Hollywood Walk of Fame star. ARTSNLA has the star-studded recap:

After selling over 15 million records globally, Salt-N-Pepa received the 2,738th star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Their star was unveiled in front of cheering fans and the media on November 4, 2022 in the heart of Hollywood. You can find their star near Missy Elliott’s star in front of the Amoeba Music store on Hollywood Boulevard. Lupita Sanchez-Cornejo of the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce delivered a moving speech celebrating Salt-N-Pepa as successful women in music. She also thanked all viewers watching the livestream.

“Spinderella is considered one of the most celebrated and iconic female DJs in hip-hop,” Lupita Sanchez-Cornejo said.

Salt-N-Pepa is the first female rap group to record an album that achieved gold and platinum certifications. Their album, Very Necessary (5x-Platinum certified) is still the best-selling hip-hop album of all time produced by a female rap group. Their new Walk of Fame star has cemented their legacy as one of the most influential female hip-hop groups who created a revolution of women’s empowerment with their music.

A group of celebrity guests attended the unveiling of Salt-N-Pepa’s star including En Vogue, Elise Neal, Dana Dane, Yo-Yo, and Sparky D. Roxanne Shante and MC Lyte also served as guest speakers. MC Lyte shared her thoughts on how Salt-N-Pepa inspired her:

“Some of you may not be aware of what it truly takes to be a star. There are some who make it look so easy you’d really have to question how hard they work… Salt-N-Pepa have remained a super nature a force of nature because they are strong, determined, confident, all while giving us decades of classics whereby the content remains relevant today… Simply hearing their voices made me believe in myself,” MC Lyte voiced.

In addition to their musical success, Salt-N-Pepa give their support to organizations like Rock the Bells and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Check out Variety‘s tribute to Salt-N-Pepa featured on page 143 of their issue published on November 2, 2022.
