With “Choosin’ Texas”, breakthrough artist Ella Langley joins Shania Twain and Carrie Underwood as the next rising country star to make history with an extended Billboard No.1 chart run. Here’s the scoop:
Ella Langley, who has 31.9M+ Spotify listeners and 5.1M+ TikTok followers, put the internet in a chokehold! Her smash hit “Choosin’ Texas” is exploding, pulling in a massive 797M Spotify streams with zero signs of slowing down. By breaking the record for the longest chart run in Billboard Hot 100 history, this groundbreaking single cemented Langley as a force in the streaming era. Mariah Carey previously held this record with “All I Want for Christmas Is You”, which charted at No.1 for 22 weeks.
Written by Langley with Miranda Lambert, Luke Dick, and Joybeth Taylor, “Choosin’ Texas” was named Billboard’s 2026 “Song of the Summer.” Langley revealed that she found the inspiration to write this song after Miranda Lambert shared a story of how her pet kangaroo got her out of a ticket:
“…And the kangaroo ended up getting her out of a ticket, but she’s like, “Of course, I had Texas flights on, too.” And I went, “Well, she’s from Texas, I can tell.” And just from that phrase, it [music] kind of all hit us. And the melody fell right out of me. I went, “She’s from Texas. I can tell by the way it’s still stepping around the room. […] And 45 minutes later, we had that song written. And it was just it was such a cool experience,” Langley revealed.
Ella Langley just lengthened her historic lead as “Choosin’ Texas” secures its 25th week at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100! This places Langley in an exclusive club with Shania Twain (The Woman in Me) and Carrie Underwood (Carnival Ride), whose albums dominated Billboard‘s Country Airplay charts with multiple No. 1 singles. Langley’s “Choosin’ Texas” spent 41 weeks at No. 1 on the Hot Country Songs chart, proving Langley’s crossover appeal. “Choosin’ Texas” is the lead single on Langley’s Dandelion, which peaked at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, spent 21 weeks at No. 1 on Billboard‘s Top Country Albums.
“You know, when we wrote that song, I wrote it with Miranda Lambert, um, Luke Dick, and Joy Beth Taylor. And we wrote it, I knew it was going on the record. I honestly knew it was going to be the lead single and we love that song, but I don’t think I could have ever imagined what’s happening with it right now,” Langley said.
Although Ella Langley’s “Choosin’ Texas” shattered Billboard records with a historic 25-week run at No. 1, 76% of U.S. listeners still have no idea who she is! This year, Luminate reported that only 24% of U.S. listeners recognised her, an increase from 13% in late 2025. However, this number is relatively low for a chart-topping artist. This disconnect exposes a new reality of the music industry: you can command a record-breaking hit while flying under the mainstream radar.
Ella Langley’s “Choosin’ Texas” broke Billboard records, redefining what it means to dominate Billboard‘s Hot 100 charts in the streaming era. Are you an Ella Langley fan? Do you like her single, “Choosin’ Texas”? Tell us in the comments!
